Known officially as the Portuguese Republic, Portugal is situated on the Iberian Peninsula on the southwestern tip of Europe facing the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.
Having been populated since prehistoric times, Portugal has a long and colourful history full of conquests and heroes beautifully depicted in its arts and architecture.
Portugal has a typically Mediterranean climate mirroring the south of Spain and is home to the world-famous Algarve area. Temperatures range from 55.4F in the north to 64.4F in the south.
The main clinic building is situated 5 kilometres away from the nearest village and offers splendid views from its hilltop location over the surrounding area of the Monchique hills, the Algarve’s highest point. Views of the Algarvian coast can be glimpsed away in the distance. The therapy annexe with group room, lecture hall, Art room and patient’s kitchen is set away from the main house offering the privacy necessary to do the important work towards recovery. A purpose-built kitchen in the main building allows the chefs to prepare great meals which are eaten in the large dining room or al fresco during the long summer months.
Set in 8 acres of land which includes a citrus grove and a quiet ‘Algarvian’ garden the clinic’s grounds offer many suitable spots for quiet contemplation or gentle walks in the most serene of environments. The grounds also offer space to engage in experiential work as a break from the talking therapy that dominates the programme.
The patient accommodation is situated close by, allowing separation from the facility and assignment work for the free time
that is an important part of the programme. Learning to occupy free time without the use of alcohol or drugs is vital to the process. The Residence its self is modern, spacious and cool in summer and warm in winter. The double-occupancy bedrooms are large and each has a very spacious en suite bathroom. All the bedrooms are air-conditioned for those summer nights when temperatures would otherwise make sleep difficult.
The Residence is equipped with a large swimming pool, recreational area, beautiful gardens and a quiet lounge and it is the perfect environment in which to continue the therapy with peers and to work on the individual assignments set as part of the programme. Of course, there is always a nurse and a Healthcare Assistant on duty at the Residence to ensure you are kept safe and well.
Choosing to go into rehabilitation is the best decision you will ever make, doing it surrounded by the beauty of Portugal maybe the second.
What’s more, flights to Lisbon are only:
2 1/2 hours from London
7 hours from New York
3 hours from Edinburgh
You will be met at the airport by a professional counsellor, instead of a taxi, and driven direct to the clinic. All of the necessary arrangements are made for you, making your journey completely stress free
